Our Story: In September, Dennis’s mom seen that he was depressed and lonely. She wanted to fix things so she signed him up for match.com. Dennis told her that he didn’t believe in those sites and that they didn’t work. After they messaged some of his matches, they came across Amber’s profile. Dennis had wanted to message her, but his mom told him that she lived too far away. Dennis felt that Amber was the one he was meant to be with. His mom said that Naples was too far away and there was no way they would ever go there. About 3 weeks later, his mom seen that he received an e-mail from Amber and when Dennis found out he was shocked and really happy! Amber wasn’t happy with where things were in her life and she wanted to find love, an everlasting love – but she was starting to believe she was destined for loneliness. In the beginning of October her mom made her sign up for match.com. Amber was completely against it, but one night she went ahead and sat down with her mom and they browsed through profiles, well her mom did. Almost every profile that her mom showed her she would roll her eyes or say things like “No way mom!” Then after a while, her mom came across Dennis’s profile and the hair on her arms stood up and she knew that she needed to show Amber right away! At first Amber, was a little hesitant. Dennis’s profile had said that he only wanted someone within 50 miles of Jay, FL. Amber’s heart dropped a little because she lived 600+ miles away but her mom told her that love doesn’t have any miles. Then Amber messaged him that night! After talking on the phone and through e-mails for about a month they decided it was time to meet, but Dennis's mom had told Amber he couldn’t come to Naples. So she made her way to Pensacola, FL all by herself because her parents believed that she was grown enough to make her own decisions. Amber and her family prayed the entire way and she made sure to call her family to keep them updated on how things were. Amber knew how to handle herself though so she wasn’t too worried plus it felt like she had known Dennis her entire life. (Yes, she wears the pants in our family—haha) When she made it there they both knew instantly that they were meant to be together for the rest of their lives. Amber didn’t want to leave Dennis but she had to go home, she had an amazing family and great job to get back to. After that, they both talked about getting engaged and married, but it didn’t work out for him to come down until January. On January 18, 2008, Dennis did the proper thing by asking for her father’s hand in marriage. Dennis was really scared of her dad but he still did it. Even though we all knew what was going to happen, Dennis didn’t ask Amber to marry him officially until her dad said he gave his blessing. Amber had to give up her job, and move many miles away from everyone she knew but she did it for love! On May 17, 2008, they were hitched and in December, Willamina was born and they officially became a family!
